About Caitlin Rushlander
I am a former collegiate cross country and track & field athlete and current group fitness instructor. I have experience helping beginner and advanced runners as well as writing strength training programs to reduce injury risk and improve running form. I previously taught fitness classes for moms and have much experience with postpartum running. My group fitness certifications cover strength and conditioning training, strength training, and barre.
Description
I started running with my dad in the 4th grade and haven't ever really stopped. I competed in high school and was captain of my college cross country and track team for two years, where I grew to love the 10k. After college, I joined a competitive running club in Pittsburgh and completed six marathons. I have been able to run during much (but not all!) of my four pregnancies and have enjoyed the slow and rewarding process of coming back to fitness after a long layoff. After having my third daughter, I was able to successfully regain my fitness and run PRs in the 5k, 10 mile and Marathon distance. I'm currently enjoying building back speed and strength after having my fourth baby. I previously taught fitness classes for moms and am enjoying coaching Track and XC at my daughter's school. I am always reading books about running and listening to podcasts to learn from the best. After a lot of research, I chose the VDOT O2 Certification because I have always referenced Daniel's Running Formula book in my own training. I love how precise this method is and how everything is backed by lab research. I have seen much improvement in my own running this year following his system as well. Additionally, two running philosophies I really believe in is "Train, Don't Strain" and "Consistency is Key", Chasing personal improvement and having big goals are very important to me. My years of running has taught me how much better life is when you make the space to do something good for yourself each day and enjoy the training process. Some of the best parts of running competitively for me has been the lifelong friends I have met along the way.
