About Casey Comber
I am a recently retired professional runner with the Under Armour Baltimore Distance group. I have PRs of 3:51 for the mile, 13:31 for 5k, and 2:31 for the marathon.
I've also been an assistant coach of Johns Hopkins Track & Field for the last 3 years and have independently coached athletes to two Maryland Games Masters 1500m Gold medals and a 2027 Boston Marathon Qualifier.
Description
I'm Casey Comber. Originally from the Philadelphia area, I ran collegiately at Villanova University and professionally with the Under Armour Baltimore Distance group. After my recent retirement from professional running, I've continued my role as an assistant coach of DIII powerhouse Johns Hopkins.
My Running Career:
High School
I grew up in Horsham, Pennsylvania, and ran for Hatboro-Horsham High School. That's where I fell in love with the sport — and where I started to figure out that I might be able to take it somewhere. I ran 4:19 for 1600 and 9:17 for 3200 my junior year of High School, then after a great summer of training, made the Foot Locker National Championship the fall of my senior year, which opened up opportunities to join elite college programs.
College
At Villanova University — a program with a deep middle-distance heritage — I competed from 2015 through 2021 (feels like forever with a redshirt year and COVID), coached by four-time Olympian Marcus O'Sullivan. I improved steadily thanks to a scientific approach to training, including heart rate and blood lactate monitoring.
Highlights from my college career:
-Mile Personal Best of 3:57
-2-time Penn Relays Champion (2018)
-Runner-up in the Mile at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships
-2021 Olympic Trials Qualifier in the 1500m
Professional
Following the 2021 Olympic Trials, I signed with Under Armour and joined the Mission Run Baltimore Distance team — a professional training group based in Baltimore, Maryland, coached by Cory Leslie. I also learned extensively about running-specific strength and conditioning from coach Carrie Lane.
Highlights from my professional career:
-Mile Personal Best of 3:51
-Bronze medal, 2023 Pan American Games 1500m — Santiago, Chile
-2024 U.S. Olympic Trials 1500m Semi-Finalist
-Two-time BAA Mile champion — Boston (2024, 2025)
-2nd place, USATF 1 Mile Road Championships (2023)
-Pacemaker for Grant Fisher's 3000m indoor world record (February 2025)
-Marathon debut: 2:31 — Baltimore Marathon (October 2025)
Coaching Career
Over the last three years, I've assisted Johns Hopkins Track & Field and simultaneously developed workouts for local athletes of all levels for Under Armour's Track Tuesday.
I recently decided to expand my private coaching business to bring private, individualized coaching to runners of all backgrounds — high school athletes, post-collegiates, masters runners, recreational competitors, and adult distance athletes who want to take their training seriously. Every athlete gets a custom-built training plan, weekly adjustments based on how the work is actually landing, and direct access to me for the questions that come up between sessions.
Recent coaching results
-1500m and 800m 2026 Maryland Games Masters Champion
-2027 Boston Marathon Qualifier
My approach borrows from my own development at the highest levels of the sport: build the aerobic engine first, develop event-specific speed in season, train the head as deliberately as the legs, and respect recovery as a non-negotiable part of the work. Within that frame, every athlete's plan looks different — because every athlete is. Together, we'll make sure your training plan fits your schedule and lifestyle.
I'm based in Baltimore, Maryland. I bring the analytical rigor of the programs that shaped me as an athlete to your training. Baseline lactate testing is available for local athletes. Reach out today!
Athlete Requirements
I am looking for athletes with a goal in mind. My ideal athletes are anyone looking to take a step forward in their running journey. You could be a high school athlete looking to run in college, a recreational runner with a goal of qualifying for Boston, a senior athlete competing to be the best in your age group, or simply someone who wants to commit to a training plan and run a PR.
