Helping runners start strong, stay healthy, and keep going.
About JJ Yabu
I provide individualized run coaching and optional strength programs for athletes training from the mile to the marathon. I’m a licensed physical therapist, competitive runner, and former collegiate team captain who takes a supportive, evidence-based approach to training. I work with runners of all experience levels, from beginners to experienced athletes, focusing on consistency, confidence, and long-term progress while reducing injury risk.
Description
I’m a licensed physical therapist and experienced runner with over 16 years in the sport. I graduated from Brown University, where I served as team captain for track and field, and I currently work in an outpatient orthopedic clinic with a special interest in running-related injuries for active adults.
In addition to my clinical work, I’ve served as an assistant cross country coach at the Division III level and have coached runners ranging from age 13 to 83. I’ve worked with athletes of all backgrounds, from collegiate competitors to beginners training for their first race. I enjoy meeting runners wherever they are in their journey.
My coaching philosophy is centered on individualization, education, and sustainability. I believe the best progress comes from consistent training that fits the athlete’s goals, history, and life demands. Drawing from both my clinical background and coaching experience, I aim to help runners build confidence, train smarter, and stay healthy over the long term. Optional strength training is available for runners looking to improve durability and resilience.
