Competitive runner and coach, High School XC coach, former D1 XC and track runner
About John Hoffman
I love to help people achieve their goals and set new personal records. I've coached athletes of varying abilities for over 15 years. I've had athletes be competitive at the state and national level, D1 college runners, age group winners, and new runners complete their first 5k or marathon. I find as much joy in all milestones from breaking that 30 minute barrier in the 5k to winning a national championship.
Description
I grew up in upstate NY and have been running since I was 10 years old. I ran competitively in high school, then ran D1 cross country and track for the University of Rhode Island. My most memorable accomplishments were sectional championships in high school in cross country, and in track in the 1600, 3200, steeplechase, and the 4x400 relay team. In college I earned Atlantic 10 rookie of the week with a 26:28 8k run in Franklin Park in Boston.
After graduation and not being on a team, it was tough for me to find motivation, so I needed something to keep me going. I started a run streak in 2011 where I do at least 1 continuous mile every single day, no matter what. This consistency has helped me reach longer distance goals of qualifying for Boston and running a 2:57 marathon. My other PRs include: 800- 1:59, Mile - 4:35, 3200 - 9:36, 5k - 15:53, 8k - 26:28, 10k - 33:34.
I have been coaching high school since I graduated college in 2006. I've mixed in working with individuals as well for about the last 10 years. I have had great success in coaching individuals to sub 4:20 miles, sub 9:30 2 miles, sub 16 minute 5ks, and many many PRs.
