Masters runner in the Boston area. Mike is a former XC and Track athlete who lost running for a decade. When he found it again, he researched and developed strategies to improve his (and his clients) performance. Lower stress, fewer injuries and better times!
Description
Mike is a native Bostonian Master's runner who focuses mostly on the 5K and 10K distances yet has recently moved up to the 1/2 marathon and marathon (BQ in Oct 2018 and again Oct 2019). A decent XC and track runner in high school (5K - 16:48, 1500 - 4:22) who has worked his way back to running in the last 5 years. Through research, education and personal trial and error, Mike has become a local coach to many peer runners. Through the principles in the Jack Daniels' formula, he has been able to coach himself to recent 'adult' PRs in the 5K (17:53), 5 mile (30:51), 10K (38:04), 1/2 marathon (1:23:28) and marathon (2:57:26) while decreasing effort and injuries. He's also led several local clients to significant PRs.
Mike is an experienced coach and organizational psychologist and has been coaching in business for over 10 years. His 'mental game' is strong and he knows how to motivate, challenge and support to get you in the right mindset to crush your goals. He discovered that he loves coaching runners best because of their attitude, discipline and willingness to invest time and effort to achieve goals. His approach to coaching is to help you achieve your goals by following key principles, challenging assumptions about what you "have to do" and following the path of least resistance.
There is something about running and runners that is special. In the book "Again to Carthage", John L. Parker puts it best. "It is actually possible to be living for years in a state of constant betterment. To consider that you are better today than you were yesterday or a year ago, and that you will be better still tomorrow or next week or at tournament time your senior year. That if you're doing it right you are an organism constantly evolving toward some agreed upon approximation of excellence. Wouldn't that be at least one definition of a spiritual state?"
Mike can help you constantly evolve. Happy running!
Athlete Requirements
Athletes need to have an open mind, a focused attitude and a willingness to laugh. It helps if they have a baseline of 20 miles a week to start, but it's not required.
