Coaching runners of all levels; newbies and vets all welcome!
About Danny Mercado
My coaching expertise comes from learning from the legendary Jack Daniels, as well as the outstanding coaching I received as a University of Oregon Duck and professional runner for Team Run Flagstaff. But most importantly, the expertise and experience I provide is to allow you to control what can become a really fun part of your life, even when most of your life can be chaotic. That's the "Stay Gold" mentality.
Description
My story begins in West Covina, California, where running found my twin brother (Diego) and I the summer before freshman year. Our best friend was doing it, and we wanted something else to do besides skate all day. By the end of perhaps the best summer of my life, we found out we were pretty good at running!
Once we got the hang of running and things proved fruitful, Oregon sought us out, and once senior year was over, we headed north to join our new team, which included one of the best recruiting classes in Oregon history. This was a big adjustment, now having to create a new family vibe (a lot of growing pains here), as well as adjusting to college in general. Still, we managed to create that and as a result we won two national championships and I can call myself a 2-time All-American.
College came and went, and once I had graduated in 2011, it was time to find a new adventure. I had some friends in Flagstaff, AZ who were on a team and I somehow convinced them that they should have me out there too! Once I got to Flag, my entire perspective on what running can bring someone changed. Here is a small town dedicated to its local heroes, not only performance-wise, but one's character and what you do with your talent plays an even bigger role.
And nowadays, now retired from professional running, I try to spread that wealth to you. Running has so many physical things to give, and while that's certainly important, I want it to be noted that it's capable of providing so much more for your mental and emotional well-being. This needs to be a supplemental part that adds joy to your life. It will instill in you lessons you need to become a better YOU, regardless of outcome or performance.
