Description
THE COACH BEHIND THE PLAN I believe in training smarter, not just harder. With 13+ years optimizing systems and processes, I bring analytical rigor to running coaching—but with heart, not just spreadsheets. MY RUNNING JOURNEY Eight years ago, I ran a 3:44 marathon. Respectable, but I knew I had more in me. By applying systematic training principles and analyzing data, I dropped my PR to 2:56—a 48-minute improvement. Along the way, I've: - Completed multiple ultramarathons, including Smith Rock Classic 50K (5:10) and WyEast Wonder 50K (4:57) - Raced toward sub-3:00 marathon goal - Trained for Canyons 100K - Helped 15+ runners achieve PRs and race goals This isn't just theory, it's tested on the roads and trails where I train. MY COACHING PHILOSOPHY Running should make you BETTER, not broken. My approach: ✓ VDOT-based pacing (train at the right intensity for YOUR fitness) ✓ Progressive overload (build gradually, avoid injury) ✓ Flexibility (life happens—plans adjust) ✓ Data-informed decisions (track progress, modify as needed) ✓ Sustainable training (consistency over perfection) I coach the way I was coached as a D3 basketball player and the way I now coach youth basketball through Hillside Hoops, meet athletes where they are, build systematically, and celebrate progress. WHO I WORK WITH - First-time racers wanting structure and support - Experienced runners chasing PRs or Boston Qualifiers - Ultramarathon-curious marathoners - Anyone ready to train intelligently I specialize in working professionals who balance demanding careers with ambitious running goals—because that's my life too. BEYOND RUNNING When I'm not running or coaching, I'm: - Leading Parental Advisory Run Club (Wednesday morning track workouts in Portland) - Coaching youth basketball through Hillside Hoops (nonprofit serving 50+ players) - Training basketball athletes looking to improve their game - Spending time with family in Portland MY CREDENTIALS - VDOT Certified Coach - 2:56 marathon PR - Multiple ultramarathon finishes - 13+ years in performance optimization - Former D3 basketball player TRAINING WITH ME Whether you need an 8-week race-specific plan, ongoing coaching, or a one-time consultation to dial in your training, I'm here to help. Portland-area athletes can join group runs and in-person sessions. Remote athletes get the same personalized attention through the V.O2 platform. Let's work together to make your running goals a reality! Ready to get started? Let's talk.
Athlete Requirements
IDEAL ATHLETES I work best with runners who are: ✓ Committed to consistent training (not perfection—consistency!) ✓ Open to data-driven, systematic approach ✓ Willing to communicate (progress, struggles, questions) ✓ Ready to trust the process (even when it feels "too easy") ✓ Focused on long-term development, not quick fixes MINIMUM FITNESS REQUIREMENTS - Can run/walk continuously for 20-30 minutes - Medical clearance for exercise (if applicable) - Access to running routes and basic gear NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Whether you're a complete beginner or experienced racer, I meet you where you are. First-time 5K runners welcome. Boston Qualifier chasers welcome. Everyone in between welcome. WHAT I EXPECT FROM ATHLETES - Complete weekly check-ins (if coaching package) - Follow the plan (or communicate why you can't) - Ask questions when confused - Be honest about how you're feeling - Trust the training paces (especially "easy" days!) NOT A GOOD FIT IF ✗ You want a coach who just tells you to "run harder" ✗ You're not willing to run easy when plan says easy ✗ You ghost your coach and don't communicate ✗ You expect instant results without consistent work If you're ready to train smart and put in the work, we'll get along great. Questions about whether we're a good fit? Send me a message—let's talk!
